When did you decide to become a writer?
I wasn’t thinking of becoming a writer; my first story made me a writer. I’m a family history researcher, which is my first true passion. While researching an Italian line, I learned about a man whose wife died at a younger age, but he never remarried, although he lived for another 30 years. Their love story was so strong and unique that I wondered how things might have been different if something a little magical had happened. Hence, the idea for Awaken was born, and my writing journey began.
What is the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given about writing?
Keep writing.
What has helped or hindered you most when writing a book?
Time. Time can be your best friend or worst enemy when it comes to writing.
How many hours a day do you write?
It depends on the project’s deadline. If I am rushed to finish, I work 10 to 12 hours daily. If not, I usually put in 4 to 5 hours.
Have you ever traveled as research for your book?
Yes. Awaken and Alive are set in Breamore, the New Forest. While there, I visited Burley, and the idea for The Ghosts of Lewis Manor was born.
Do you prefer eBooks, printed books, or audiobooks most of the time?
I am a paper girl. I love reading a physical copy and seeing the words on the paper.
Are there any books or authors you are inspired by?
I deeply admire Agatha Christie. I love her stories because they take my imagination in different directions and keep me guessing until the end. She definitely is the queen of mystery.
What books have you read more than once in your life?
There are a few. The most recent being Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. She is a masterful writer.
